MQL Minimum Quantity Lubrication for Near Dry Machining
MQL as an alternative to flood cooling has gained a wide acceptance in the field of high speed machining. High Gain Technology has provided many systems to UK manufacturers and now supplies UK built units in conjunction with AML Advanced Micro Lubrication Ltd. from Hinckley.
For the High Speed Machining (HSM ) of Steels and Alluminium the application of Minimal Quantity Lubrication (MQL) provides effective cooling and lubrication at the cutting point of the tool.
MQL is a very effective alternative to Flood Cooling.
As all the oil is used in the cutting process the workpiece is left dry and clean.
Tool life is increased as the wear of the tool is minimised due to the precise targeting of the air oil mixture directly on the tool cutting point. Component Surface Finish is improved.
The work place area is left clean and dry
The process of Minimal Quantity Lubrication is applied through pneumatically actuated metering pumps which deliver precise amounts of lubricant through a capilliary tube, the oil is then mixed with air up to 6 bar just before the delivery point. It is this mixture of air and precise amounts of oil that gives the effective provision of cooling and lubrication at the tool point.
MQL is the way forward for High Speed Milling when machining steels and Aluminium
MQL systems can be provided with up to 6 output nozzles for external application and it can also be provided with a through spindle option for internal applications. The High Speed Spindle in this case has to be provided with an appropriate rotating joint.
